Tips for parents when their child appears for board exams
With board exams starting soon, this is a stressful and hard time for students and their parents. The mental pressure is not just on the children, but their parents share the same pressure on them. The children have academic pressure as well as the non academic pressure like how their parents are dealing with them during their board exams which also reflect their performance. While the academic pressure is already immense for the students, it’s their parents who should not only be calm their self, but should calm, motivate and prepare their child to face one of the most important phase of their life and not just pressurize them.
Here are some tips for parents to keep in their mind while their child is appearing for board exams.
Do not compare your child with others-
Stop comparing your child with other children in terms of study hours, tuition classes, grades or anything else. This will lower their goals, motivation and self- esteem. Don’t tell them to be better from others, but boost their morale so they reach their own full potential.
Take out time for leisure activities
After a long day of preparation, it will be a nice break indulging your child in an outdoor activities or indoor activities with your child. So an activity will freshen up your child and relax his mind and body, this will automatically help him/her for studying further. You can play badminton, carom, football or just a walk for some duration in the evening.
Taking care of health
Good food always lifts the spirit and making him/her nutritious and tasty food will boost their energy. Even letting them eat their own choice food once a while is also not bad. Make them take small breaks, enjoy their food and see that they take proper sleep as well.
Do not disconnect internet or TV service
You can keep the volume low, but disconnecting all, the service is not a good idea. Motivate him/her to learn rather than wasting time, but making them feel how much discipline they need to be, won’t help. Talking about the internet, there are useful sites from where they can download sample paper, model test paper with answers and can also get information if they have doubt in anything.
Focus on knowledge rather than grades
It’s not like grades are not important. They are equally important, but motivating your child to learn for knowledge automatically ensures that they will write well in their exams. By focusing just on grades can make do unfair means to secure good marks, whereas knowledge will be there with him/her for the rest of their life.
Already your child is going through stress, being nervous in front of him/her about exams won’t help him anyways. Don’t lower his productivity and motivation by showing or putting your stress on your child. Try to calm yourself and your child also.
Be a support system to your child
Always pushing him to study for hours will just increase the stress and hamper their health. Be a support system, make him feel relaxed about exams, spend quality time with him, show that your love is beyond their grades, make him feel loved by telling him/her their parents are always there no matter what happen.
