THE PRECARIOUS CYCLONE FANI HIT ODISHA
Nature is really furious with human beings because we have been putting it in the grave since long. As an answer to the disgrace behavior that we are showing towards earth, nature has been consistently answering us back with the signs of natural calamities destroying major parts of our dwells. Here is another warning the fani cyclone in Odisha, one more perilous activity by nature.
Cyclone Fani, a severe cyclonic storm, made landfall impact on Friday, May 3, 2019, around 8.00 a.m. at the south of Puri on the Odisha coast. The entire process is expected to happen over the next two hours. The Odisha government on Thursday evacuated over 11 lakh people from low-lying areas in 15 districts.
As of 10.30 a.m. on Friday, the extremely severe cyclonic storm lay centered near Lat. 20.00N and Long. 85.80E over the Odisha coast about 20 km to the north of Puri and 25 km to the south of Bhubaneswar. The current wind speed is between 165-175 kmph gusting to 190 kmph, the PIB tweeted. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and weaken into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 3 hours.
There is a yellow warning issued by the MET department predicting very heavy rains in the coming few hours. People have been rescued but some are still lost and stuck in between the cyclone.
This probably is not new for Odisha, back in 1999 a super cyclone had hit Odisha which killed more than 15000 people. And cyclone fani is the fourth storm to hit the country’s east coast in the last 3 decades.
Odisha is not new to these disasters and it has always been the most susceptible state to cyclones in the month of October, November. For the sake of people, 879 multi-purpose shelters are made by Odisha which can accumulate almost 1 million people.
This scenario looks so bad when the earth becomes fiercely towards human beings, what are we still doing and waiting for? Let us now at least open our eyes and stop making this planet so polluted.
